Photography competition website...Enough to make a sane person snap

Tonight i thought i would blog about something that has got me quite frustrated over the last few months.

I am not going to name the website in question but want people to be aware of unfair photography competition website practise. Most seem quite legit and it's only actually one that i have come across that has seemed to be giving certain members of it's website an unfair advantage. Anyone who knows me personally will know i love photography as does my hubby. He is much much better than me but i do like learning stuff from him.

Anyway, this particular website i joined has competitions that you can enter for a fee with changing themes and with votes being cast mainly by members or winners selected by themselves. The main thing that struck me as rather odd is that the same three people keep getting selected and their photograph is displayed as the main picture when you click on a competition. Believe it or not, this gives them an advantage. Our brain works in such a way that the first picture we see will automatically stand out for us. Regardless of if it is good or not. To me when there are lots of different people entering this gives those displayed as the *main* photograph an unfair advantage. I did contact the website owner but was told the main picture selection was a random process. After being a member of the website for a fairly lengthy period of time i now know that this is not the case and when i tried bringing up the subject again i was ignored which kind of speaks for itself.

I feel that if you are going to part with money to enter a competition of any kind you should check and double check that the website is running itself in a fair and proper manner. If something seems off you may be a lot wiser to hold on to your money.

Well that's my whinge of the day and on a happier note here is the song of the day.
